Top 5 Video Games of 2011

Batman Arkham CitySpeaking of remembering, here is a list of 5 solid titles released in 2011:

Batman: Arkham City- although this is a reboot of the old Batman franchise, there is still so much excitement that goes with the title. Aside from the new technology used for the game, new challenges and characters await the gamer. This time, Batman: Arkham City is so unpredictable.

Uncharted 3- this game is one of the most sought-after video games last year. Naughty Dog, the developer, did a good job in maintaining the plot from the first iteration.

Battlefield 3- this is the closest rival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 when it comes popularity. It is a first-person shoot game which also maintains the continuity started since the original Battlefield. The release package was stable that’s why it received really good reviews from gamers and critics alike.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim- the fact is Skyrim has overtaken Electronic Arts’ 8-year dominance streak in UK last year beating Battlefield 3 and there should be a reason why. Perhaps, the reason why it didn’t spike its sales during the launch is because it was released on the same week Modern Warfare 3 was launched.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3- being the highest grossing entertainment product of all time is not an ordinary achievement for anything on earth. Modern Warfare 3 is a breakthrough in the gaming industry. Although it was released in the last quarter of 2011, it made really good impressions on gamers who have been waiting for its release.

MW3 was dubbed as “Game of the Year” during Spike’s Video Game Award which means it has beaten everything as long as gaming is concerned. With a new downloadable content (DLC) coming this month, it is expected to create another hype in the world of gamers.

Kids Games – Choosing the Right Video Games For Your Children

Video Games For Your ChildrenWhen video games were first introduced, we had basic games such as space invaders, Pac man and tennis – remember pong? Everyone loved to play and the games were age appropriate for all ages. Unfortunately, as the gaming graphics and technology improved, the realism grew right along with it. Fortunately for parents, the gaming industry has put a ratings system in place to help select the right game for the age. This system is the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, also known as the ESRB.

The ratings are as follows:

  • EC (Early Childhood)
  • E (Everyone)
  • E 10+ (Everyone over 10 years of age)
  • T (Teens)
  • M (Mature, anyone over 17 years of age)
  • AO (Adults only)
  • RP (not yet rated)

These ratings are clearly printed on the front of every video games sold. Games that are rated E are fun for everyone. These are usually games such as Super Mario Brothers, Mario Cart, etc. T rated games have more mature games and may include fighting, real life type crashes and may show graphic scenes including blood.

The M games are rated M for mature themes. These are the types of games that have profanity, nudity, and extreme violence and gore. M rated games are definitely for adults only. So constant vigilance is important when monitoring the games your children play. Most retailers are very cautious about these video game ratings and they will require ID if someone under 17 tries to buy a game with a Mature rating. Take the time to play video games with your kids. This includes playing inappropriate video games.

Encourage your children to keep their gaming system in the family room or game room. By keeping the games in a common family area, kids are more likely to play games that they know their parents approve of. Kids who keep their game systems in their bedrooms have the opportunity to be sneaky and try games with higher ratings than their parents approve of.Pay attention to the ESRB ratings on video games, play the games with your kids, and encourage them to play in family areas of the home.

PC Game Review – Victoria II

Victoria II game pcVictoria II is a new part of Paradox Interactive’s fabulous set of grand strategy games, each covering a different period of history and letting you try to do basically whatever you want. This title covers the time period between about 1835 and 1935, spanning the American Civil War, the Great War, and the period when the sun never set on the United Kingdom. Industrialize your nation, colonize what’s still left, and contend with an increasingly militant population as the game goes on. Many Paradox titles have issues right when released, and though this game is stable and completely playable on release this time, it’s already become clear what the major issue is: Revolutions and rebellions. Unless your government is the most progressive and worker-friendly in the entire world, (and even sometimes if it is) you will face constant rebellions. They’re not usually difficult to deal with — rebel troops aren’t very efficient and your military can dispose of them without issue. But the tedium of clearing out troops stationed in every province of your possibly far-flung empire, sometimes once a year or more in-game, is incredibly frustrating. It slows the game’s pace to a crawl as you slowly hustle your troops around and your plans are disrupted over and over. This will be fixed in an upcoming patch, and there are fan fixes available already, but those who don’t frequent Paradox’s forums may be caught in the frustration.
This game should, however, be used in economics classes. Why won’t the capitalists build any railroads? Are tariffs too high? Victoria II is definitely a recommended buy. It’s not always easy, but it has strong educational capabilities, and there’s so much fun in taking your Communist Argentinian government on a conquering spree through South America. It has some early-release flaws that will be ironed out soon, but the game is already perfectly playable and fun.
